SHSID Students Got Great Results in 2018 NEC Competition

The SHSID NEC team of three G11 IBDP students, Yvonne Yu, Ziyi Jin and Pin’an Chen, attended the 2018 National Economics Challenge in New York in May 19-21.

The National Economics Challenge (NEC) is the US’s only high school economics competition. Each year, over 11,000 students across the U.S. participate in the competition. The Challenge recognizes exceptional high school students for their knowledge of economic principles and their ability to apply problem-solving and critical-thinking skills to real-world events.

The competition is held in two divisions:

Adam Smith Division: For IB, AP and honor students.

David Ricardo Division: For semester general economics students participating in the challenge for the first time.

After three days’ competition, the SHSID team got the first place among all the teams from China in Adam Smith Division and they also got the second place of the Critical Thinking Award out of all the teams, beating many top teams from famous high schools in the U.S.. Congratulations!
