Grade 6: Middle School Biology Microscope Test

Last week, in 6th Grade S Level Science, the students were tested on their microscope capabilities. Each student was given 2 minutes to find and focus on a prepared slide at 2 different magnifications: 40x and 400x.

The students had to apply the knowledge they had learned in the classroom as well as during previous microscope experiments, such as how to turn on the microscope, how to load the slide, how to focus on the slide, and troubleshooting problems when they arise. Most students were able to focus on the slide at 40x magnification, although many students struggled to successfully focus on the slide at 400x magnification.

Thankfully, most students demonstrated their knowledge in appropriate microscope usage, such as ensuring to only use the course knob while focusing at lower magnifications and then switching to the fine knob at high magnifications. Students found the test challenging, but many rose to meet this challenge.
