Pudong Grade 1: Open Day

On May 18th, the Pudong Campus held its annual Open Day. On that day, our students’ parents were invited to come to the school, observing what a school day in SHSID looks like. The parents came early in the morning, when the students were just turning in their homework. After the bell for Read Aloud, the parents sat behind or next to their child, seeing how their child takes the lesson and interacts with the teacher. There were 4 periods on that day for Grade 1, including English, Math, Music/Art, and Chinese. The parents were able to witness different teaching styles and various pedagogical approaches, including group work, presentation, lecturing, and discussion. This being the first Open Day for these parents, it was also an opportunity for them to observe how their child behaves during the school day. After the day, the parents felt relived. They used to worry about how their kid behaves and what they learn in school. One of the parents said that “I am proud that (my daughter) is in our school, and thank you for all the teachers for preparing such a nice Open Day.”
