Grade 6: Swimming Competition

Recently, the 6th graders of SHSID had an internal swim meet. Our classmates and teachers went to the pool with excitement. The swimmers representing their classes were eager to jump right into the pool after changing into their swim gear.

The first event was 50m Breaststroke. My classmates were passionate about trying to win the event, and we were overjoyed when our class came in first. Next up was backstroke (50m). With the euphoria of the first event lingering, everyone got even more hyped up. With his fluid strokes and speed, Leon Chen from Class 6(1) was placed first. The third event was 50m Freestyle. Motivated by the cheering and encouragement of my classmates, I helped our class score another first for the day.

The final event was the 100m Relay. It was probably the event that was most representative of each class’ team spirit. Every class sent their strongest swimmers to compete. In the end, the hard work of all the swimmers and supporters were evident in the fast times achieved by each team. Regardless of their timing, everyone showed the spirit of unity amidst their struggles to win. To us, winning or losing was not important after all. What mattered most was that we experienced and gained the sportsmanship of friendship, perseverance, and determination. Good job everyone!
