Pudong Grade 1: My Pictograh

In order to enhance their understanding of how Chinese characters are formed, the Grade 1 students of SHSID’s Pudong campus worked on a creative project about drawing their own name. As the requirement of the task, the students had to draw a picture about the meaning of the Chinese characters in their names. For example, if one student’s name includes the Chinese character for dragon (龙, lóng), then they have to draw a dragon in the shape of that character. Because of the pictographic nature of Chinese characters, the students found it amazing when they matched the meaning with the shape. Many students turned their names into fabulous designs, and proudly presented their work in front of the whole class.
