Grades 5、6: Spelling Bee
Grades 5、6: Spelling Bee
At the final round of the 5th and 6th grade S/S+ Spelling Bee, every contestant proved themselves up for the challenge as they safely made it through to the 3rd round of words. Everyone looked at each other wondering who would be the first to slip up. The rubber hit the road when the word ‘thawed’ came up and knocked out two people. More students took their seats when they were unable to overcome ‘ledge’, ‘permission’, and ‘podium’. Finally, we had three contestants left: Bobby from 6(4), Sam from 5(7), and Ha Yun from 6(5). The trio went through two rounds together when Bobby finally succumbed to the word ‘dissemble’. Sam and Ha Yuan faced off in a heated head to head clash. The paired battled back and forth spelling words correctly, but also both incorrectly spelling words! Six incorrect spellings later, it looked like they each wanted the other contestant to win! ‘Bodega’ was the breakthrough word, which coincidently was the same word that was used to break the deadlock in last year’s H/H+ division. Ha Yun correctly spelled the word to come away with the title of King Bee! Congratulations to all the contestants for competing and making the final round!
