Grades 7、8: English Speech Competition
Grades 7、8: English Speech Competition
On the afternoon of May 3rd, 2018, a congregation of students descended upon the auditorium of SHSID and, once seated, began talking amongst themselves in anticipation of a long-awaited event: the Speech Competition.
A total of 14 students- collected from the best of the best speakers- worked their way through several rounds to reach this large and glamorous stage. A judging panel of eight English teachers and two students presided over events.
The fourteen students all presented a three to four minute long speech on various topics but all linked back to one key theme: global citizenship and social injustice, as well as related topics such as economics. The competition featured informative and well-spoken speeches on topics ranging from the Harms of Globalization, by Felix from 8(11), to a speech about economics by Rob, from Grade 7. An additional impromptu round on the topic of mandatory enforcement of vaccination was also held among the 8H and H+ speakers, with each speaker giving an one to one and a half minute speech on the topic supporting one side or another.
At the end of the day, all speakers performed extremely well in a showcase of their true talent, and also got some sweet prizes to celebrate their accomplishments. Congratulations to the speakers this time around. We hope to see more talent displayed in this sort of event next year!
