Puxi Grade 3: Millions of Trees in the Desert

On May 2nd, all the third grade students gathered in the auditorium and witnessed the donation ceremony for the Roots and Shoots environmental organization.

Their, representative Ms. Wang had just returned from Inner Mongolia with fresh information. In the video, the students saw boundless sandy land, on which couples of tiny figures were moving. We could see that volunteers in waterproof jackets with respirators were taking care of the baby trees. In the desert they looked so negligible, while when they got together they were so strong that could protect millions of trees. Since 2006, Shanghai Roots and Shoots Million Tree Project has planted more than two millions of trees, with help from thousands of volunteers.

After watching the video, Ms. Wang introduced the process of planting a tree. From planting, to watering and pruning, across every step people need to be patient and careful. Without the love for the environment, this could not be done. The students were touched by the volunteers’ spirit.

At last, we held a short donation ceremony. Every little representative from each class lined up to put the money into the box. Our efforts in the charity fair turned into real help. This helped the students feel the meaning of doing good things. We hope that every student will remember how important it is to protect the environment.
