Pudong Campus: Chinese Costume day, the Climax of Chinese Culture Week

Chinese culture is old and rich, yet even so, we can only touch on such a tiny part of it in modern life. Last week was Chinese culture week in SHSID’s Pudong Division, which was a good chance for students to learn about it. As one of the most beloved events in SHSID, Chinese Culture Week includes a diverse range of activities for students to experience and explore. These include Chinese paper cutting, porcelain pattern drawing, reciting using Chinese dialects, role play, Chinese musical Instruments performances, a Chinese singing contest, and so on. But the one most worth mentioning most is Chinese costume day.

On April 26th, the Chinese costume day, all the students and teachers on campus put on their costumes. Thanks to their range of different styles, all the costumes were unique and arresting. Swordsmen, poets, generals, ministers, emperors… No matter what kind of costumes they wore, students tried their best to live up to the roles they were playing. In order to act a character well, the student had to learn about this character’s life experience, historical background knowledge, and also the context of the society at that time, which impressed everyone a lot.

This kind of learning encouraged the students to learn faster. Influenced by the students’ enthusiasm, the teachers, who also participated in the costume dressing, took a sweet group photo at the end of the day. Not only did the Chinese costume day bring everyone on campus extraordinary joy, but also it gave the students and teachers a chance to bond closer together. More importantly, the students learned a lot of new things about China, and Chinese culture!
