Puxi Grade 4: Clay Terracotta Warriors
Puxi Grade 4: Clay Terracotta Warriors
Week 10 is Chinese Culture Week in the Primary Section. This week, students of the Native Level Chinese classes studied a text related to Terracotta Warriors. To engage the students’ interest, the teachers of Grade 4 guided their students to make Terracotta Warriors out of clay.
Teachers first showed some pictures of the Terracotta Warriors and encouraged the students to observe them carefully and be as imaginative as possible. As soon as the order was given, all the students devoted themselves to making their own Terracotta Warriors. Very quickly, they shaped and squeezed the lumps of clay into pretty cool sculptures. Some made warriors wearing helmets and armor, carrying bows and arrows, swords, and crossbows in their hands. Some made chariots harnessed by four horses. The teachers incessantly marveled at their creativity and hands-on ability.
In this activity, our kids were exposed Chinese art, history, and culture. They not only had a lot of fun, but also were provided by a chance to exert their imagination. We hope every kid can fall in love with the deep and diverse world of Chinese culture!
