Grades 11:Job Shadow Day
Grades 11:Job Shadow Day
On April 20th, two Grade 11 students from SHSID headed to one of the destinations for SHSID’s job shadow days. This time it was Yamaha Sound (China) Investment Co., Ltd. The first stop was the piano exhibition hall, located on the third floor, where numerous pianos were on display. The innovative silent piano and ‘Disklavier ENSPIRE’ series were the most stunning ones that were specifically introduced to the two students. This series is an automated piano series that is currently not on the market, and known for its extremely high quality precision and sound. Most importantly, they have a feature that allows them to wirelessly connect to other pianos.
Due to the fact that both visiting students knew how to play piano, they were warmly invited to play these world-class, highly expensive pianos. Through the wireless connection feature, the students were able to interact with the professors from Zhejiang Conservatory of Music and had the world’s only experience of an automated musical performance sent through a wireless connection. During this session, the department manager of the company also visited the exhibition hall and kindly introduced the students to the company’s Department of Pianos.
Afterward, the mentors offered a small lecture about Yamaha’s core values, development, and participation in charities. Yamaha is known for its explicit production qualities across several industries, but also well-known for its enthusiasm in music education. These are expressed through the building of music centers across the country, setting up concerts and music contests, and offering job training programs for music teachers, as well as donating pianos and distributing staff to poor regions of the country. Such devotion towards benefiting society and music truly amazed the students into wishing to learn more about Yamaha.
In the afternoon, the students were assigned with a job to simulate a situation in which they are required to plan a music contest and present it in the form of a project proposal. This contest was aimed to promote the Yamaha brand, and at the same time, cultivate participants’ interest in learning music. To fully experience the working environment in an office, the students were invited to write the proposal in the office area in which the other 200 employees work. In this process, the students had a chance to see how the company Yamaha has an orderly and relaxing office atmosphere.
Soon after submitting the proposal, the ‘employees’ got off work at 6 pm, and the job shadow day ends here. Both the students and the mentors had many good things to say about their day, and the students showed their gratitude for such a remarkable experience in Yamaha.
