High School Math Seminar: The Cultivation of High School Students’ Math Literacy

On the afternoon of April 12th, the International Division High School Math teachers held their first research and development seminar in Room 107B of the Xianmian Building. The theme of this seminar was the cultivation of students’ Math literacy. The seminar was hosted by Principal Ma Feng.

A week before the seminar, Mr. Ma assigned the new teachers three pieces of reading to help consider the following questions:

• What is Math literacy?

• What can be improved in terms of Math literacy cultivation in our school?

• What’s missing in our teachers’ Math literacy, and how can we do better?

During the seminar, the new teachers combed through the advanced insights in the articles and put forward their own opinions and feelings based on their teaching experience. Mr. Ma took notes during every speech and occasionally inspired and guided the new teachers to enlighten each other and discuss further. The one-hour sharing session benefited every new teacher a lot.
