Puxi Grade 3: iRead

It’s time to show how much we love reading! This semester, the 3rd Grade students are challenging themselves with our iRead program. The goal is to encourage students to read for pleasure and to read books from genres outside of their comfort zone. Each student has their own ‘iRead’ template, which includes their Lexile Level, that they need to fill in! To fill in a square on their ‘iRead,’ the students need to read an English or Chinese language book and answer a few questions from their teacher.

Once students have filled in a square, they receive a colorful ‘yarnie’! This ‘yarnie’ is special, because the students attach it to a clip on their backpack and then everyone can see how many books they have read. Many students have already collected a number of ‘yarnies’ and are well on their way to creating the coveted ‘poof’!

The teachers can tell that their students are enjoying the ‘iRead’ program. We’ve seen a lot more enthusiasm for reading in the classroom than usual!
