High school: A Fantastic Economics Week

The last week of March, from Mar 26th to 30th, was the school’s economics week. During the week, various activities were provided by the Economics Department teachers, which aimed to help the students learn more about how economics plays a role in their daily lives.

Some students participated in a poster competition, where they analyzed contemporary economic issues and made posters about them. Other students made comments on the different posters. In the activity, the students focused on a wide variety of issues, including the US economy, Bitcoin, hyperinflation, international trade etc., showing great diversity in their thinking and very good application of knowledge learned in class.

There was also an economics knowledge competition from students to compete in. It was divided into an individual competition on economic theories and a team competition on the latest economics news. Not only should they have knowledge on basic theories, but more importantly, they also should pay close attention to the latest economic events happening around the globe.

Our students actively registered for the competition and during the team competition, they cooperated together and had some very heated group discussions. From the results shown, it’s clear some students were very familiar with the news and got excellent scores.

Beyond these two activities, Mr. Tillman Huett, the co-director of CYBL (China Youth Business League) was invited to give a training session to all competing students. Th CYBL competition is an educational platform for high school students to learn more about the world of business. It aims to evaluate and develop high school students’ business talents and leadership abilities.

Some other guests from outside the school were also invited to give lectures to students. They introduced the banking industry and also the impacts of big data and AI technology on the banking industry. The lectures were very popular– the whole lecture room filled up with students!

The economics week was fantastic. There was something for everyone. The students learnt more about economics during the week, and also were encouraged to pay attention to economics in their lives, both now and in the future.
