Grades 11-12:Lectures Held for Economics Week

From March 26th to the 30th, a series of activities for Economics Week were held in SHSID. Students were welcomed to participate in the various competitions, activities and lectures. Two lectures, The Secrets of the Banking Sector and The Recent Development of the Banking Sector, were held in the Xianmian Building on March 26th and 28th.

On March 26th, Ben Yang, the co-founder of The Yang Foundation, shared his secrets . He introduced the basic structure of the banking sector by explaining the interactions between investors, investment banks, and companies. He also described the different departments in a bank, the Corporate Finance hierarchy, a typical deal structure, and the schedule of an analyst. Finally, Yang encouraged students who aspire to enter the banking sector to have a good understanding in Mathematics, to do extended readings, and to develop more “people skills”.

Two days after Yang’s lecture, Richard Li and his associate from HSBC China also came to the XM building to talk about recent developments in the banking sector. Firstly, they explained the origin of banking and currency, and stressed the concept of credit. Then they introduced the recent digitalization in the banking sector that utilizes technology like AI, Big Data, and FinTech which can give rational data analysis, convenient branch control, and instant replies to customers. Finally, they advised students who aspire to enter the field to have a creative mind and strong leadership skills, which can be helped by joining their management trainee program and affiliate programs like CTB.
