Puxi Grade 1: Trail Mix Mixtures

After learning about the three states of matter, Puxi’s first graders continued to learn more in Science class.

On Monday, March 26th they made Trail Mix mixtures in science class. Before the class, teachers asked every student to bring in one small bag full of treats to contribute to the trail mix, including pretzels, nuts, M&Ms, popcorn and raisins. Teachers first mixed water and oil to explain that water is heavier than oil and then started the making the Trail Mix.

The students poured the treats into a basket and then used a chopstick to mix them. Since the treats were all different, they could easily separate them from the basket one by one. And after that, they ate the treats happily.

Students learned about the word ‘homogenous’ and ‘heterogeneous’ through these two fun experiments. What a fun Science class!
