Puxi Grade 1: Science Fun

Lately the first graders have been studying the states of matter: solid, liquid, and gas. They got a better understanding of the 3 states of matter by making Coke Floats. The students then mixed vanilla ice cream (solid) with Coca-Cola (liquid) to make a yummy, creamy, foamy drink (gas). They really enjoyed this science experiment!

On Wednesday, March 21st, the First Grade Science teachers talked about how states of matter change. The students learned about physical and chemical changes in matter. To see these changes first-hand the students did a class experiment by mixing vinegar (liquid) and baking soda (solid), and created enough gas to blow up a balloon!

On Friday, March 23rd, the students did a really fantastic experiment to further explore the changing states of matter by making Oobleck. Oobleck is an oozy gooey liquid-solid like substance that was so much fun to play with! The students really loved to get their hands messy making this fun substance.
