Puxi Grade 3: Scavenger Hunt for Solid Figures and Shapes!
Puxi Grade 3: Scavenger Hunt for Solid Figures and Shapes!
During Weeks 3 & 4, Puxi’s third graders learnt about geometry. They learnt about the features of 3D and plain shapes. To help them understand the definitions better and build their three dimensional concept, the Grade 3 teachers designed a project- the Geometry Scavenger Hunt- for all the students. They were divided into 5 groups and were asked to search for 2D and 3D shapes according to the directions. Then they needed to integrate all the information and make a Comic Life book on their iPads.
During the Math class of March 15th, the teachers brought all their students outside. They found circles in a pattern on their familiar playground, found hexagons on the basketball court, found an air conditioner machine shaped like a rectangular prism! By working together in teams, they did an amazing job completing the challenge.
On Week 5, the teachers received many creative projects made with a great deal of thought and effort. The students labeled 2D and 3D shapes and typed their names beside them. In this activity, the students’ imaginations were strengthened and their ability of integrating information was enhanced. It was also a great chance for them to review class content and put some knowledge gained in the classroom into practice in real life.
