Pudong Campus: Fire drill without an early warning!

At 15:08 p.m. on May 15th, a fire bell rang all of a sudden at the SHSID Pudong campus. The hallway quickly filled with thick fog and smoke and an unpleasant odor carried through the air. While lessons were still going on inside classrooms, the teachers and students in grades 1 through 5 did not know what was happening, but they still reacted promptly. Using their knowledge of fire safety, the teachers led the students out of the classroom while instructing them to cover their mouths and noses. With the help of the emergency escape directions, which are always taped on the doors of the classrooms, the teachers and students exited the building safely and got on the school bus that was waiting for them at the gate.

There was no real fire, this was simply a drill without any early warning for students or teacher. During this particular fire drill, the whole school took 1 minute and 10 seconds to successfully exit the building without any injuries. Even Mr. Calvo’s little hamster was safe and sound!

Although we do not expect to ever have a real fire on campus, the entire faculty at the SHSID Pudong campus will always do their best to be prepared in the event it ever does happen.
