Pudong Grade 4:Happy St. Patrick’s Day

On March 13th in P&B class, the fourth grade teachers taught the students about an Irish form of poetry called a limerick. A limerick is a poem with 5 lines; lines 1 and 2 have nine syllables, lines 3 and 4 have 5 or 6 syllables, and the 5th line has 9 syllables again. This particular form of poetry is tricky because lines 1, 2, and 5 rhyme and lines 3 and 4 rhyme.

After learning about limerick poems, students then started to write their own in groups, having the first line of the poem already completed for them. Each member in a group was responsible for writing one line of the limerick and then passing it on to the next group member. When the groups finished their poems, they copied them onto a green shamrock-shaped paper and decorated them. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
