Are We Using Technology to Drive Learning and Create 21st Century Learners?

How are you currently using technology in your classroom? Here at SHSID, we are very fortunate to have a 1:1 iPad program in grades 1st through 3rd, as well as mini Macs and a projector in each classroom. On Friday, March 9, 2018 the foreign primary school teachers met to share ideas, explore different opportunities to utilize technology, and create technology goals for future lessons. As 3rd grade teacher Melanie Cherry said, “We want to ensure we are using technology to drive learning and create 21st century learners, not to just make learning more fun for students.”

Teachers shared how they use technology each day and set a personal goal of one way they want to add technology to their classrooms using the resources we currently have. Several teachers want to incorporate more research led learning, and they discussed the importance of first modeling this for students. Another goal was to begin using technology to poll students during class, hoping to increase participation by making responses anonymous via a device.

We are looking forward to sharing our progress and technology successes in a few weeks!
