Puxi Grade 5: Fire Drill

On March 8th, a fire drill was held in SHSID.

The last fire drill was carried out around five months ago. Although the students should now be ‘experienced’ in fire drilling, their teachers kindly reminded them about the protocol for fires and emergencies. Not long after the teachers gave this advice, the fire alarm rang. Most of the students reacted appropriately by quickly grabbing their wet towels, bowing forward to avoid potential choking by smoke, and walking out of the school building in an orderly fashion. The first round of drilling ended when all the students gathered at the assigned spots outside of the school building.

The second round of the drill was run with a bit of twist. We simulated a scenario in which a fire happens while a class is in progress. The students pretended that they were having math class and whilst the teachers were teaching, the fire alarm blasted at full volume! All the students were able to leave the school building efficiently, taking the proper precautions. Less time was used for a complete evacuation in this round of drilling.

The fire drill was a success! The students should feel more prepared for fires and emergencies after this exercise.
