Walk Decisively on the Way Guided by Intense Personal Interest: Grade 9-10 Course Day

At the beginning of the second semester of the 2017-2018 school year, the annual Course Day was held for Grade 9-10 to expose the students to the variety of classes that SHSID’s High School offers. Various educational departments- including English, Math, History, Science, Music, Art- set up booths in the Zhongxing building for students to visit and ask questions concerning the curriculum. Rather than students asking their peers for information, several teachers devoted their time to the Course Day, answering the questions themselves.

Course selections are a very important part of a student’s high school life, and it can really make a difference to their future. Teachers of Curriculum classes such as English, Chinese, Social Studies, Math, and Science first gave brief presentations detailing the curricula available for next few years’ classes for Grade 9 and 10 students. Starting from the lectures that every elective course teacher introduces, each teacher explained many details regarding the subjects, including course content, difference between levels, prerequisites, and some future options. These speeches gave students a brief overview of the course. In the second Q&A session, from Zhongxing Building all the way to the Annex building, there were passionate and curious students in every classroom. Many students found that they would be able to pursue their own personal interests in subjects such as History, Geography, Chinese Literature, and Music Appreciation. Although some rooms were crowded, the teachers were still very patient answering every student’s question clearly. Many students were taking notes, evaluating and comparing the different courses seriously.

Overall, the Course Day gave the ninth and tenth graders lots of helpful information and inspiration of their future course choices. Hopefully every student will find what they love and work hard on it!
