Grades 7-8: Openning Ceremony

As the bustling crowds flooded into the auditorium, the reality of school starting began to dawn on them students, still trapped in the dreamy illusion that they are on vacation. Some people quietly scurried to the seats at the back as a hush fell through the room, and the second semester opening ceremony began.

After Mr. Ni announced the beginning of the opening ceremony, Adele from 7(10), Hannah from 8(2), and Sooji from 8(10) gave speeches as the students’ representatives. They encouraged us to not only work hard in school, but also give service to the community. We should balance school life and fun, and must conquer academic slumps— a loss of motivation to work hard in school.

Then, Mr. Ni congratulated students who excelled outside of school, for example in the American Math Competition, History Bowl and Bee, and swimming competitions. He also expressed his hope for us students to become cultivated people— people who are polite, self-disciplined, kind, and considerate.

Principal Liu encouraged us to be the master of our studies, to plan for the future as high school and college is near, and to be a contributing member of our learning community and give pride to our school, SHSID.

Lastly, star classes were announced, and many prizes were given to students who exceeded their expectations in various areas, like academic studies and social activities.

This is the last opening ceremony for many students in middle school. We are only a few months away from graduating and becoming high schoolers, and the joyous memories of middle school will leave a lasting imprint in our memories. I hope everyone has fun this semester, whether you’re a 7th grader close to becoming an 8th grader or a future graduate, about to embark on a new challenging journey—high school.
