The Journey Begins (Foreign Teacher Winter Orientation Day Two)

If Tuesday’s return of SHSID’s high school staff for day one of winter orientation is an indicator of what is to come in the second semester, it will be a term that is talked about and used as a model for years to come! Sun-filled faces, rested bodies and souls, and the energy of memorable and enjoyable holiday events replaced the gloom of the cloudy and rainy day with bright, excited focus for the work which lies ahead. It was again made evident that friendship, collaborative teamwork, and a unified purpose are the foundational hallmarks of this 2018 high school staff.

During the second day of the orientation, Josh and Eric led the hour-long introductory session: a framework of the events, expectations, and goals for the semester were clearly established. Additionally, the group helped provide tips and practical suggestions to help accomplish them. This was followed throughout the day with beneficial development and planning sessions for English and History being broken down into each grade to best address the specific needs and challenges this semester will bring. Early feedback has been positive and encouraging with discussions continuing in the offices.

The responsibility for the student’s ultimate success heavily weighs on their own shoulders; yet a learned, planned, and prepared staff is vital for student success to occur naturally. Without question, when Friday arrives there will be no question that the foundation has been set, and the environment is ready for the students to meet and exceed their goals for the term.
