High School History Department Meeting
High School History Department Meeting
On January 5th, all of SHSID’s High School history teachers attended a history department meeting in Room 104 of the Xian Mian Building. Firstly, Mr. Chris Hodachok briefly introduced some upcoming tasks, which include the scanning of the test papers and the submission of the senior project.
Next, all the teachers were divided into three groups to fill out a textual analysis and intervention form based on the texts (about Korean War, Vietnam War, and Cuban Missile Crisis respectively) they received in advance. All the textual materials come from the Grade 9-10 World History book. Everyone expressed their own views, concerning questions such as “Does the text facilitate student understanding?”, “Is the text interesting?”, and “Does this challenge a diverse range of student?”. They then analyzed the advantages (like the usefulness of the graphic organizers) and disadvantages (like the country and gender bias ) of the textbook.
The discussion was very helpful to all the history teachers in reflecting how to use the textbook in a more proper way, and inspired them to design effective activities and provide more supplemental materials for students in class.
