Pudong Campus: A Visit to "Roots and Shoots"

Five Grade 5 students from Pudong campus enjoyed a trip to the Shanghai Roots and Shoots office on December 7th. Those lucky students were Ayzen, Nicole, Samantha, Elizabeth, and Kate from Class 5(2). They felt so privileged to represent our campus in donating the 15,305 RMB earned from the charity fair.

In the office, Ms Wang from Roots & Shoots introduced R&S’s organizations and ongoing programs to the students. We all know damage is done to the Earth’s environment, all over the world. To effectively address such problems, Shanghai Roots & Shoots, a global nonprofit organization, aims to protect our earth. In one year, about 2 million trees were planted in Inner Mongolia, a heavily deforested region of China. As a result, the local ecological environment was gradually improved. Ms.Wang encouraged our students to use recycled paper cups and gave a set of badges to everyone. Our students were amazed by her hard work and impressive lectures. They now believe that protecting the environment meant saving our homes.

Finally, a certificate of tree planning was offered by the organization. It showed that our Pudong campus donated 1,531 trees in total. Our Grade 5 girls felt so proud of witnessing this moment and they leaped for joy at the good news.

Overall, it was a great educational trip for these Grade 5 students. We appreciate the great work and effort put in by the organization and we are ready to be helpers in the future to make our planet greener.
