8th Graders won awards at IHBB Shanghai Regional Round

The International History Bee and Bowl (or IHBB for short) is a history competition designed to test participants’ general and categorical knowledge of historical events,

people, or objects. This competition has been occurring twice every year in Shanghai for the past five years, and this year, on December 3rd, SHSID hosted the regional International History Bee and Bowl round, having many Shanghai school teams from NAIS, SAS, and more fighting it out with their massive stores of history knowledge.

This led to an intense day of competition with 5 bowl (team) rounds and 3 Bee (individual) rounds as well as a Bee final and a Bowl elimination bracket consisting of two rounds. In the end, SHSID scored the most medals and trophies of any school in the competition, taking home all the awards of the Middle School Division including the Bowl first, second and third place awards among 9 teams in the Middle School division and the top three individual competitors, with Felix Qin from 8(11) taking first, Oliver Ni from 8(8) taking second and Calvin Pan from 8(3) placing third. The Varsity and Junior Varsity teams also contributed to the total medal count with the first place award for both Bee and Bowl occupied by SHSID competitors.

Congratulations to all contestants who competed! We hope they will be achieving the same levels of success later on in the second Shanghai round this spring and at the Asian finals in Phuket, Thailand!
