Grades 11-12:Speech Competition

Grades 11-12 held their annual speech competition during the CAS class of December 8th. This event gave students a chance to show off their public speaking and English skills. The competition was separated into two levels: standard and higher level. For the students participating in the standard level, they were given a prompt to address an issue of their choice. Every prompt covered an issue in modern society.

Contestant Eric Lee won first place by delivering a speech regarding the importance of sexual education. As the event moved on to higher level speeches the competition became fiercer, and the higher level students were given a specific rhetorical situation which they must deliver to their audiences on stage. Every speaker spoke with enthusiasm and passion, however a competition is a competition, and only the best speakers were able to advance to the next round. As a result, Sophie Li, George and Stephanie progressed to the second round and won the first, second and third place respectively. It is also worth mentioning the fact that three individual awards were given out as well– Katelyn won the most successful speaker/audience dynamics award, Stephanie won the most charismatic award, and George won the most creative award.
