Puxi Grade 3: Math News
Puxi Grade 3: Math News
From Week 13 to Week 14, the students had a big math project called ‘make a math test’. Students were asked to design a math test on Chapter 4, which was mainly about graphs, time and data. There need to make at least 3 multiple choice questions, 4 basic fact questions, 4 fill-the-blank questions, and 2 word problems. There were some other requirements in details, like showing complete and accurate
graphs, giving complete answers, and making the final product look like a real test paper.
Students paid significant effort and passion in this challenging project! The project actually turned out to be a little less fun and exciting than the students expected. They didn’t have extra time to spend on decorations. However, they really showed how well they understood the topics of chapter 4. They showed how accurately they graphs they could draw graphs, what nice calendars or clocks they could design, and how creative problems they could create. All of these are real points in mathematics. Some students loved this project so much that they made even more questions than being asked, and several of our third-graders made tests with 8 or more pages.
We teachers will have to spend a great amount of time grading these projects. During next week, the best projects may be made into real test papers and given to the other students. Some students can monitor the test or even help grade the test papers. Let’s see if we can make a real test, designed, monitored and graded by our own students!
