Puxi Grade 1: Making Math iBooks and Math Collage
Puxi Grade 1: Making Math iBooks and Math Collage
Puxi first graders are studying solid figures and plane shapes in their Math class.
Solid figures are a relatively difficult thing for students to study. So the teachers assigned the students their first project in the My 3D Shapes iBook. The students needed to find three objects for each solid figure and take pictures. Then they had to use one of these pictures to make a cartoon to introduce the attributes of each solid figure. They used the app learned in IT class and made wonderful iBooks with their
iPads. What’s more, some students even made a song about solid figures on their own to introduce solid figures. How creative they are!
After studying plane shapes, teachers also assigned a project Math Collage to student. Students should use different shapes in different sizes to design and make a collage on their own. Students combined color blending in Art and plane shapes in Math to finish their masterpieces. A lot of amazing projects surprised teachers.
‘Interdisciplinarity’ was applied in these two projects. Students consolidated their Math knowledge in Geometry, and applied some knowledge from other subjects at the same time.
All the teachers hope their students will find a lot of fun in making Math Collages and a My 3D Shapes iBook.
