6th Grade Career Day:COMAC Experience

On November 30th , Class 6(2) enjoyed a wonderful and ‘VIP’ tour at COMAC (Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd.) as our career day visit. We took a tour around the engineering center as Michael’s uncle gave us many interesting informational nuggets. As we toured around, we learned about the eagerness in China to build a successful aviation industry. Now, with the new models of CR929 Long Range Wide Body Civil Aircraft, ARJ21 Regional Jet, and C919 Large Passenger Aircraft, this goal has become achievable. As we ventured into the main building of the center, we were introduced to a list of the company’s many sites. We learned about COMAC’s goal; to allow China-made large aircraft to fly across blue skies. COMAC has set offices in both Europe and America, where they have also been receiving many orders for their planes. As we entered the model storage room, we saw models of several planned future planes. The larger models included only the cockpits and a few of the first class seats, while the smaller ones showed the entire aircraft from 360 degrees.

We then explored the Innovation Center, where we all got to experience the pleasure of being a pilot. Other than virtual reality piloting, we also looked at many ideas from other people and one of the experimental wings that broke when testing its ability to bend. The difference this wing experienced was a 2 meter change, so don’t worry if your flight’s wings are shaking slightly when flying!

This field trip is now a highly recommended choice, with all of us enjoying the tour. We received an excellent presentation and a wonderful tour of one of China’s most important projects. Special thanks to Michael’s mom and uncle for taking time off work and allowing us to have such a wonderful afternoon.
