Puxi Grade 5: Career Day Lecture

During November 30th’s CAS class, the fifth graders had an interesting activity: Career day. On that day, four parents, from four different classrooms, each gave an inspiring speech about their jobs and how the jobs are important in daily life.

5 (1) Wesley’s dad - computer scientist. A computer scientist is a person who studies machines or robots and interacts with them, trying to make people’s life easier using advanced technology. Wesley’s dad is looking for a way to try to prevent car crashes by inventing a cloth that can sense drowsiness and alert the driver.

5 (2) Chin Chin’s dad - interior designer. An interior designer is a person who designs a space to fit a purpose. Chin Chin’s dad told us that everyone is in a kind of space everyday: a library, the cafeteria, and even our homes! He also gave a secret formula: creativity + being professional = interior designer.

5 (4) Owen’s dad - lawyer. A law is anything that a court of law can enforce. Owen’s dad showed us that laws are for both international purposes and personal purposes. Laws are used for international peace treaties, or for small things like a family’s argument.

5 (5) Christine’s mom - accountant. How does money stay safe? How much, exactly, did a company spend and get? These are an accountant’s job. Christine’s mom also told us that learning is a life-long journey!

Meanwhile, the students weren’t doing nothing. Some were taking notes, thinking that they want to have one of those jobs when they grow up. Other students discussed their thoughts on the speeches with their friends sitting next to them.

All the students in fifth grade had a good time on career day. We learned that any job is fun if you like it. I hope that next time we will have even more fun!
