Grades 11-12:Art Festival Audition

Being a judge two consecutive years in a row – sophomore and junior year – I could sense that the candidates were auditioning for slightly different purposes. To freshmen and sophomores, art festival would be about getting together with “cool” friends and having fun, just for the sake of making fun memories or showing off your crazy skills at playing a musical instrument. However, to juniors and especially seniors, the art festival was about school spirit. Maybe this was because it was one of their last few chances to go up stage and create treasured memories that would be remembered forever after graduation.

The audition was held from Tuesday, November 21st, to Friday, November 24th. Each audition day corresponded to a different talent. Tuesday was musical instruments, Wednesday was singing, Thursday was dancing, and Friday was a cappella. Lots of supportive friends made their journey to the auditorium to cheer their friends onstage. Especially on Thursday and Friday, when the air was feverishly heated, spectators rose out of their seats and frantically gave theperformers a big round of applause and energetic whistles.

Every art festival at SHSID, those captivating dance performances have been the thing students looked forward to most.
