6th Grade:A Journey to the World of Plants

Last Friday afternoon, the presentation and the nature visit that I had been waiting a long time for finally came. When we arrived at the classroom, the teacher who gave us presentation was named ‘Frog Dude’. This was not his real name– he wanted usto call him ‘Frog Dude’ because he likes frog, an doesn't like people to address him formally as Mr. Zhou.‘Frog Dude’ taught us about a lot of different leaves, and told us some interesting facts. For example, lots of leaves fall off trees during autumn and winter not mainly because of the leaves being old, or the weather being cold, but mainly because in winter there is not much rain, so the trees don't get that much water. The leaves make the water in the tree vaporize, and the amount of water vaporized can't be more than the amount of water the tree absorbs, so the leaves will fall off to help the tree to store water for winter. ‘Frog Dude’ also taught us the parts of leaves, and names for the shape of leaves: sword shaped, stitch shaped...and more!

After learning about the shapes of the leaves, I looked at my watch: it was time to visit nature! We lined up like soldiers and started on our way to the Botanic Garden. I couldn't believe that he was talking about such an amazing place until I found that it was just next our school. After we left campus, we arrived at our destination in around 5 minutes. We were so lucky to study day-today near this world of plants!

In the Botanic Garden, we listened and walked in the gentle rain. Nothing could be more comfortable than this! We learned the history, types and special properties of plants. I even saw a kind of leaf that was weird– when you rip it apart, you can see sticky lines. It was so fun! After we visited the garden, we brought our happiness home with us!
