Grade 8: The Opening Ceremony of the Volunteers Exhibition at Liu Haisu Art Museum

The sun was brightly shining in the sky when SHSID’s young helpers held the opening ceremony of the volunteers’ exhibition at the Liu Haisu Art Museum on November 25th. The LHS service learning team is devoted to spreading the beauty of art and education throughout our community through volunteering at the Liu Haisu Art museum. The club arrived at 1 pm along with chorus team “Voices from Beyond” to start preparing for the ceremony and rehearsing for their performance. By 2 o’clock, the stage was all set and the opening ceremony began. The students were addressed by the director of the museum along with other notables within its volunteer organization. In the midst of the singing and harmony, the humor and the speeches, the students had a chance to consider why service to one’s community is truly important.

We all want to leave a legacy behind– something that we did that will influence later generations for the better. Service allows us to do this: it combines the eternal ideals of mankind: morality, kindness, responsibility. It is only when you realize the importance of the small actions you take everyday, that you realize your own potential to change society for the better. SHSID encourages its students to serve the school, the community, and the people around you to do just that.
