Final Round of the 7th and 8th Grade Story Telling Competition
Final Round of the 7th and 8th Grade Story Telling Competition
On November 23rd, the much-anticipated storytelling competition arrived. Middle-schoolers gathered in the auditorium during CAS class, eager to hear their friends and classmates give their speeches and tell their stories.
The students were very respectful towards the speakers, thinking about how nervous they themselves had been when they gave their own speeches in front their English classes just a few weeks ago. All of the competitors were phenomenal storytellers, demonstrated by the many rounds they went through and their outstanding performances during the competition. The panel of judges, including
several foreign teachers and two student representatives, adjudicated the competition.
The topic of the eighth graders’ speeches was horror and crime, while the seventh graders chose a theme of their own. There were many categories in the competition, including 7S/S+, 8S/S+, 7H/H+, 8H/H+, and there were winners in every category. However, before the winners were declared, suspense was built by Mr. Ni as he chose to announce the most popular contestants before the storytelling winners.
The most popular speakers were Mimi 7(1) and Victor 8(5), and voters for them were awarded mystery prizes. Now on to the most exciting part: the best contestants! The winners of 7S/S+ were Sarah 7(4), with Ayaka 7(9) and Sarah 7(4) as runner-up and second runner-up. The champion of 8S/S+ was Joy 8(7), with Emily 8(9), Victor 8(5), and Josephine 8(3) coming in second, third, and fourth place respectively. Mimi 7(1) was awarded first prize in the 7H/H+ division, Joyce 7(5) second prize, Justin 7(10) third prize, and Ingrid 7(9) fourth prize. Last but not least— the 8H/H+ category! The title-holder of first place in the storytelling competition was Peiran 8(3), second place Tiffany 8(1), third place Lillian 8(7), fourth place Anita 8(2), and fifth place Eileen 8(1). Everybody cheered for all of the winners, and it was definitely one of the most noteworthy and thrilling events of the semester!
Also, we must dedicate a special thanks to the ASBs and the teachers and workers who made this competition possible. We must acknowledge the ASB members, who counted the votes, calculated the scores, made the Powerpoints, kept the time, and maintained discipline during the entirety of the competition. ‘Thank you’s’ must also be given to Mr. Ni and the teachers, who organized and judged the event. Without them, this magnificent event would not have been possible.
Thank you to everyone who participated in the storytelling competition, whether you made it to the final round or not. Congratulations to all the winners, and…see you next time!
