Puxi Grade 3: Let’s Irrigate the Roots and Shoots With Love!

On November 22nd, all the Third Grade students gathered in the auditorium and witnessed the donation ceremony for Roots and Shoots, a worldwide environmental organization.

Our students listened carefully to an exciting speech made by R&S representative Ms. Wang. In 2007, Shanghai Roots & Shoots launched the Million Tree Project. Through raising funds, planting trees, protecting the forests and promoting their cause, they are trying to raise people’s environmental awareness, encouraging every person do their part to help the environment through real actions.

Looking at the pictures, our students learned that the manmade deserts in China’s northern regions are becoming greener step by step. They’ve also seen how volunteers worked hard to set up ‘grass webs’. One day, the deserts may become forests. Ms. Wang also mentioned that if they wished, SHSID’s youngest students could also keep returning to Inner Mongolia and Ningxia Province to plant trees every year until they reach 16 years old. Her words planted green seeds in their hearts.

After the speech, six students represented the whole third grade to hand over the donation the money to Ms. Wang.

Small hands with caring hearts are trying their best to support the roots and shoots. We hope that we can irrigate those roots and shoots with love and they can grow up into forests in the future.
