Grades 9-10: An Introduction to the UK Pedagogy

As part of a series of professional development training sessions for teachers, a workshop about “the UK Pedagogy” brought teachers of Grade 9-10 some practical strategies that can be applied to their class teaching. The UK Pedagogy is based on six foundations.

1. Tasks should be appropriately challenging,

2. Teacher input should be minimal,

3. Classes should have the necessary learning skills

4. Goals should be clear

5. Feedback should be immediate

6. Pupils should be motivated by their tasks.

The teachers were separated into several groups and participated in the following activities: review with grid coordinates, snowballing, project work, ‘market places’, and listening triads. At the last part of plenary and reflection, teachers reflected on four things they learned, three things they are going to do in their classroom, two things that made them smile and one question they would like to ask.
