Primary School Grade 2: Review on Science & Social Studies

Grade 2 has had a lot of fun in science and social studies class! In science class, we started out the year learning about what make living things so special. We learned all about plants. At the end of the unit we created a plant project. Students had to research how products start out as plants and become products that we use every day. Students then presented their projects to each other in class. We saw how cocoa beans are turned into chocolate and how trees become paper.

We also studied fossils. Students learned how fossils are formed and how they help us understand what life was like on Earth a long time ago. We even had a chance to be a paleontologist and dig for our own fossil!

In social studies class, we’ve learned about the different neighborhoods that make up a community and how different some communities are. We also noticed how much communities can change over time! That led us into history and our family history. Students had to do research about their own family to create a family tree. Some students went all that the way back to the Qing Dynasty!

It’s an exciting time of discovery in grade 2.
