Computer science teachers visited Feng Xian District Edutech Co.
Computer science teachers visited Feng Xian District Edutech Co.
On November 8th, all of the computer science teachers from SHSID went on a field trip to Feng Xian District Edutech Co. The day was divided into two parts. The first part revolved around the smart classroom, where teachers explored new education technologies, such as real-time feedback interactive whiteboards. These whiteboards enable students and teachers to interact more efficiently and they help teachers to enhance classroom instruction. The second part involved the development of enterprises, where the company’s instructors displayed some of its Maker works, such as the robot that can solve puzzles, the smart robot Xiao Yi, etc. The teachers were engaged and interested, asking the instructor’s questions about the working principles behind each work.
After exploring many of the interesting Maker works, the teachers could not wait to start experimenting and creating their own! The first project they worked on was 3D printing. The teachers experienced the whole process of designing and printing in order to create the real thing. Not only did they get their own designs, they also had the opportunity to put their thoughts into action. The second project they worked on was a robot production, where they worked together in groups and utilized professional knowledge to solve potential problems and create an implementation plan for creation. Throughout this project, many heated, constructive discussions were taking place. Learning by doing enabled the teachers to acquire a lot of new knowledge while also having fun! By the end, all of the groups of teachers had successfully completed their robot production.
Currently, our school is working towards developing a maker course in a standardized way, so that students can become more engaged and involved in science. During the field trip, our teachers were the learners who explored many new tech products, expanded their knowledge, and experienced the fun process of creating a maker. All of this will act as a strong foundation for the construction of the course at our school.
