Pudong Campus: Charity Fair Warming-up
Pudong Campus: Charity Fair Warming-up
At our Pudong campus, students from Grade 1 to Grade 5 enjoyed a lecture in the auditorium on November 7th. Two professionals from the Shanghai Healing Home and Shanghai Roots & Shoots were invited to introduce their organizations briefly and encourage students to participate actively in the coming charity fair.
Everyone arrived on time at 2 o’clock, and we could see that all seats were occupied. First of all, Aaron, the lecturer from the Shanghai Healing Home, showed some startling pictures of the babies living in the Healing Home. Some children were suffering from cleft lip and palate disease, some babies had several heart surgeries just several days ago, and some children could not walk. Although one baby seemed quite strong physically, unluckily, she was born with a brain defect. Volunteers of Shanghai Healing Home provide the children with plenty of love and good schooling. All babies who have trouble moving their arms and legs are assisted well by machines to strengthen their bodies.
Another volunteer, Ms.Wang, was warmly welcomed by our students. Ms.Wang was a volunteer from an environmental protection agency called “Shanghai Roots & Shoots”. It is universally known that people are facing a wealth of challenging environmental problems every day. Shanghai Roots & Shoots is a non-profit NGO that works to protect the environment. Ms.Wang showed us all a lot of pictures of the sandy areas in Inner Mongolia and Ningxia. However, about 2 million trees were planted by this organization and the local ecological environment is gradually improving. Our students were amazed by their hard work and impressive changes.
Though we only had 40 minutes class on that day, we were all glad to have learned how we can do our bit at SHSID to protect our environment and help the babies at the SHH. After listening to the lecturers, we understand that it’s very important we do our bit to help people. We believe that students are ready to be a responsible global citizens and have a great charity fair in the coming days.
