The 3rd Activity of She Mountain Service Learning Team
The 3rd Activity of She Mountain Service Learning Team
From October 15th to October 29th, 5 students from the 8th grade spent 3 consecutive Sundays volunteering at She Mountain as speakers and guides, and were also responsible for maintaining order. The students did a lot of preparation before each activity and were praised by many tourists. The students also learned a lot from this activity. Here is what some of them have to say:
“In Sheshan I served as the narrator, and I wasn’t well-prepared at the beginning. However, with the help of my teachers and classmates, I quickly memorized the history. For the first wave of visitors I wasn’t answer their questions, but after a while I was able to answer to their inquiries. Through this service learning activity, I learned a lot about responsibility. This experience also deepened my understanding about the Sheshan telescope, which was the world’s first astronomical telescope and has a glorious history.”

Being a part of this service learning activity was certainly a good experience for me! The architecture and scenery at She Mountain was nice, which made the four-hour stay at the museum enjoyable. This was also a very good learning opportunity, since it was easy to understand information when you have to teach it yourself. I interacted with groups of tourists who came to the museum with different reasons and attitudes: friends, families, as well as camps and clubs. The visitors would make comments which would gave me insight about what they thought about the museum. In general, it was a special experience and a valuable learning opportunity I have never had before. I’m glad that I didn’t miss out on my chance to participate!
