Pudong Campus: Sports Week

Week 7, October 9th to October 13th was dedicated to our great sports week. At our Pudong campus, the students enjoyed a series of fun activities and competitions.

1. Jump Rope Activity

During lunch recess, students met at the playground to practice jumping rope. Before that, students had watched a video about various jump rope skills. Outside, they practiced the methods they learned from the video, as well as tried new ways that they came up with. All of them were actively engaged and eager to learn more skills. Eventually, it became quite easy for them to jump the rope 180 times in 1 minute!

2. New Activities and Sports Spirit

Throughout our sports week, students in all grades tried a lot of different activities. Both the boys and the girls were very excited to try new sports and games they had not done before. 1st and 2nd graders played hide and seek together with their teachers. Another teacher took out a giant parachute and students had to hold the corners of it to make a circle and keep it up in the air. They took turns running under the parachute to the other side. It was a good activity to teach students the importance of teamwork as they had to work together to keep the parachute up. During personal growth class, the 3rd grade students tried a traditional game called hoop-rolling and there was a competition between the two grade 3 classes. All of the students played an active role in the game. Students in grade 4 played a water balloon toss game together. In order to toss and catch the water balloon successfully, the two players in the pair needed to cooperate and try their best to keep the balloon from breaking. The students learned how to be patient and work together through this activity. The lucky grade 5 students and their teachers were given the opportunity to meet professional baseball players face-to-face. The baseball players were invited by the school. The students learned from the players; not only the fundamental rules of baseball, but also how to practice skills relevant to the game.

3. A Pleasant No-Homework Day

It might be quite surprising to some students to have no homework on a Monday, however it happened at our Pudong campus! On October 9th, the students were not given any homework in any of their subject areas. Our Pudong teachers believe that this was an effective way to encourage students to participate in sports and have fun exercising. This was another wonderful part of our sports week!
