Grade 7: Korean Families Group Delivers a Sweeping Success at the Middle School Charity Fair
Grade 7: Korean Families Group Delivers a Sweeping Success at the Middle School Charity Fair
On October 26th, a Korean Families group delivered a sweeping success at the Middle School Charity Fair.
We interviewed 7(3)Gabriel’s mum- the group leader- to find out more.
R(Reporter):
How did you organize the group? You know, it mustn’t be easy.
Gabriel’s mother:With an announcement at the 2017 SHSID Charity Fair, a number of 7th grade Korean students’ parents gathered to discuss how we can participate. During this gathering, it was decided that representing Korean culture by selling Korean food was the best way to raise most donations. After few parents agreeing on participation, we gathered all SHSID’s Korean students and asked who wanted to be involved. We received plenty eager responses from many motivated mothers and students.
R:Can you tell us something about your preparation, because we found that it was really organized that day, and your food was really delicious and cheap.
G:The beginning of the preparation began with building a foundation by collecting donations from all Korean 7th grade participants to fund our corner. Using the donation, parents’ came up with a delicious menu consisting of home made Korean signature dishes such as toppoki (Korean rice cake and spicy sauce), kimchi pancakes and gimbap (Korean seaweed roll) to be cooked by all volunteers. Remaining donations were used to purchase ready made popular Korean food items such as fried chicken, rice pop ice-cream, aloe, and milk based drinks.
During the preparation, Ms. Chen, home room teacher of 7-3, acted as a master coordinator to ensure that our corner was a success in being a major contributor to the whole event.
R:Wow. We were deeply impressed by your teamwork. And may I ask how much you raised for the charity fair? To put it another way, how do you comment on your performance?
G:The charity fair was a success. Although there were some new Korean students and parents, it wasn’t an uncomfortable or distressing environment for them. In fact, it was the unison of all the Korean mothers and students with the same purpose that made the event such a pleasant function. A total of 30 students who donated from 7th Grade Classes 1 to 11 split into two teams, Team A (Class 1 to 6) and Team B (Class 7 to 11) selling all the items while parents in the back were supporting them. Both teams chip in to this event and that led to a rewarding accomplishment.
Having worked as a team for the first time with volunteer students and parents, we knew it would be a difficult event to pull off successfully. Nonetheless, despite all the potential challenges, we all managed raise an amazing 3,750 RMB.
After the event came to an end, all of us had a chance to reflect on why we all participated and realized that we all had a common goal to support SHID.
SHID not just an ordinary school, but a school with full of future prosperity where kids all over the world can grow as one.
R:Thank you very much! Thank you so much for your support! No wonder Harace and Charlie (Korean students who participated in the charity fair as salesmen) said: “It is was fun and interesting, and we would like to participate again next time.”
