8th Graders’ 2ndService Learning Activity at Sheshan

On October 22nd, 7 students from the 8th Grade of SHSID went to Sheshan for the second activity of our service learning team. Many of us had been to Sheshan before as tourists, but this time we went to the observatory as volunteers, which gave us some new experiences.

This was the first time for many of us to serve as a guide at an observatory. Before the day of volunteer work, we practiced reading over the information we would need to present again and again and again. But, many of us were still too nervous to speak in front of the visitors. On the other side of the room, there was a machine that was ‘competing’ with us for the job as the guide! Eventually, after a lot of practice, we were able to speak to our visitors in a more smooth and confident way.

From the volunteer activity, we not only helped a lot of visitors to learn more about the centennial telescope, but also learnt how to present in front of strangers, and work together as a team.

This was an unforgettable day for us. It was fun and full of achievements.
