China Youth Business League (CYBL) In-School Training Session

On October 24th, Mr. Tillman Huett, the co-director of the Chins Youth Business League came to SHSID to give a training session to students who would take part in this competition in November. He started the training by asking “How do Facebook and Google make money?” to guide students to think about the development and survival model of businesses, and also to know how to make rational business decisions.

He also showed some basic financial statements to teach students how to read them and find useful information for businesses to set their strategies. After that, he briefly introduced the schedule and contents of this competition, including business training, elective model learning, case analysis and case presentation. He also mentioned that those who won the competition can have the opportunity to attend the training and global final in the Wharton Business School at the of University of Pennsylvania. The students listened very carefully during the training session and they answered questions actively, showing great interest.

CYBL was established in 2014 and is an educational platform for high school students to learn more about the world of business. Through a complete American style mode of teaching business, it aims to evaluate and develop high school students’ business talents and leadership abilities and arouses great potential for these abilities. It provides typical case analysis and financial knowledge to challenge students in a relevant manner, as well as deepening team spirit and improving students’ business communication skills. Meanwhile, the academic advisors focused more on business environment simulations and actual cases in competitions to let students improve their critical thinking skills.

So far, CYBL has hosted competitions on the regional (both Spring and Autumn seasonal competitions) and national levels in China. Each year, it also invites tutors from top universities home and abroad, and experts in different industries to give lectures and trainings for students, and be the judges of the competition.
