Biology PD Day: Communication Between the Middle & High school for STEM and PBL courses

In October 13th, SHSID’s biology group carried out a sharing session between the STEM and PBL courses of Middle and High School Divisions.

Ms. Yao introduced the Middle School curriculum and STEM activities. The goal is to cultivate students’ passion for science, while also improving their scientific literacy and abilities. There are many different experiments and STEM competitions in the Middle School. Students have lots of opportunities to come up with questions regarding daily phenomena and undergo scientific research under the guidance of their teachers.

Then, Ms. Liu shared her experience in STEM competitions and illustrated how students can become scientific learners.

The second part was PBL introductions. Ms. Gu and Mr. Liao emphasized the main contents, goals and requirement for students who choose the PBL courses. Teachers in high school have introduced their PBL courses respectively (Human Physiology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Environment, etc.), regarding teaching plan and potential problems.

The session was a success. Our teachers communicated effectively with each other and improved their teaching methods and standards to a great extent.
