Grades 9-12:High School Sports Meeting

On October 12th, the annual SHSID Sports Meet for the High School students took place. The Sports Meet commenced with individual class performances, which were playful, but very well executed. When the performances were over, Principal Ma gave an encouraging speech, followed by a speech by Linda Zhang, the athletics spokesperson from class 10(2). The opening ceremony ended with a spectacular performance by the Chinese broadcast gymnasts and a martial arts performance by the High School teachers.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, the student competitions began! The first events were the preliminary rounds of the 100 and 200 meter dash for both girls and boys, followed by the preliminary round of the 800 meter race for girls. At the same time, medicine ball, shot put, long jump, and high jump competitions for both girls and boys were taking place.

After the judges had carefully selected athletes from the preliminary rounds, the final rounds of the 100 meter dash for girls began. By the time the 100 meter races had ended, noon was approaching.

For lunch, hamburgers were handed out to all students and this was in addition to the treats being sold by student-operated food stands. Delicacies ranging from Japanese rice with grilled meats to honey-pomelo soda drinks and home-made cookies garnered the attention of both students and teachers. Aside from food stands, the psyche club also promoted healthy stress management techniques and students were able to get their faces painted by the halo club.

At 13:00 sharp, a friendly dodgeball match between students and teachers began, ending in a big student-win! By 13:30, the athletes for the final round of the 200 meter dash were back on the track, followed by the charity run in which nominated teachers participated. Next, the preliminary and final rounds of the 400 meter run for both girls and boys, as well as the 1500 meter run for boys, were held. Adjacent to the track, the medicine ball, shot put, long jump, and high jump competitions had ended. The athletic competitions concluded with four 100 meter relay races for both girls and boys, which demonstrated great team spirit.

Several classes from each grade were awarded for creativity, organization, and overall achievement for their performances and this ended this year’s High School Sports Meet. Congratulations and thank you to all of the students and teachers who participated, and well done to all of the athletes on their wonderful performances!
