Grade 9: Charity Concert in SCMC

October is harvest season! As the leaves on the trees turn golden, it’s time celebrate.

On afternoon of September 30th, the eve of National Day and the Mid -Autumn Festival, the Music for Patients (MFP) Team once again held a charity music concert in the Shanghai Children's Medical Center. The rainy and windy weather didn’t dampen these young musicians’ enthusiasm as they sent their warmth and love out to the hospitalized children. After completing their monthly examinations, they headed off directly from the school to the Shanghai Children's Medical Center Outpatient Hall and began their concert.

This was the first concert held by the Grade 9 MFP Community Service Club, continuing on from the MFP Service Learning Project of Grade 8. It is also the eighth charity concert since the MFP Team was founded last September. Adding several new members from Grade 8, Kingsley and the core team members specially planned a recital program that included both classical and modern masterpieces from Bach, Chopin, Mendelsohn, Debussy, Beethoven, and Hisaishi.

On a magnificent stage with ambient lighting effects specially created by SCMC, each musician played their pieces carefully and elaborately. The audience in the SCMC Outpatient Hall were felt deep joy as they listened to the lovely melodies. With relaxed smiles on their faces, children and parents present seemed to temporarily forget all of their worries. They clapped their hands to the rhythm. To bring a little bit o festive atmosphere and to spread their warm wishes for the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival, the MFP team members had specially prepared some toys for the children in the cardiac ward.

Ms. Ji Qingying, the Vice President of SCMC and Mr. Ni Minxue, the Director of Grade 7 & 8, delivered opening speeches on behalf of the hospital and the school respectively. They both praised the MFP Team members for their charitable action and encouraged them to continue contributing to the society and the public with both academic knowledge and extracurricular talents.
